There are arguably two Cancuns, but the one that most Canadians are thinking of, and have visited, is the 20 kilometer stretch of land that juts out like a bent arm from the Yucatan mainland forming a sandy strip of less than a kilometer in width. This is the Hotel Zone and it’s bordered by a large lagoon and the Caribbean Sea. Here you will find a nearly endless array of resorts, restaurants, nightclubs, discos, marinas and shopping complexes; it is everything that most vacationers look for in a holiday.
While most visitors to Cancun are content to enjoy activities that fall within a 200 foot radius of the hotel pool or swim-up bar, Cancun has plenty more to offer. From the ancient Mayan cities of Chichen Itza, Coba, Tulum and Uxmal to the soft, white sand beaches of the Isla Mujeres or the ecological parks at Xcaret and Xel-Ha, you’ll find a lot of fish in this sea.
