Drive west on US Route 95 to
Beatty,
the gateway to
Death Valley National Park

Rhyolite - photogenic ghost town where gold was discovered in 1904,
landmarks include the Bottle House
Death Valley National Park - lowest point in the US where most of
acreage is below sea level
Scotty's Castle - international attraction at the north end of Death
Valley which showcases life of Walter Scott, a flamboyant gold
prospector; scheduled tours by interpretive park rangers are
available
Existing Death Valley on State Route 267 to Scotty's Junction drive
north on US Route 95 to Tonopah; on the way, pass through the
historic community of Goldfield where gold was discovered in 1902
Tonopah - Queen of the Silver Campus where you can explore the
actual mines that created the town

State Route 376 and drive north |

Belmont,
one of Nevada's largest living ghost towns; many photogenic ruins.
Retrace the road from Belmont back to State Route 376 and drive
north through the Smoky Valley to Hwy. 50, described as the
loneliest Road in America. It is at the centre of Nevada history
from the Pony Express to pre-historic times.
Driving west on
Highway 50,
the nearest community and good place to take a break is
Austin
which was the second largest city in Nevada in mid-19th century and
which today is known for rugged terrain for mountain bikers,
historic churches, gem shop cafes, and antique shops.
From Austin,
drive east on Hwy. 50 to Eureka through the
Toiyabe National
Forest.
Eureka is
another living ghost town in Nevada complete with many beautiful
restored historic buildings and cast of local characters.

Drive east on
Highway 50 to
Ely,
another mining community. Ely is a graceful town where vintage
buildings have been revitalized through a citywide mural project.
More than 25 murals provide an artistic glimpse into Ely's colourful
and ethnically diverse past.

Nevada Northern Railway & Museum - an early 20th century mining
railroad that offers excursions
Ward Charoal Ovens - smelting structures once used when mining was
at its peak.
Great Basin
National Park - Nevada's best kept secret. Includes some
Lehman Caves and groves of ancient Bristlecone Pines, some nearly
3,000 years old.
